Monde Zondeki

Monde Zondeki Biography

Full name Monde Zondeki
Born July 25, 1982, King William's Town, Cape Province
Major teams South Africa, Africa XI, Border, Cape Cobras, Warriors, Warwickshire
Batting style Right-hand bat
Bowling style Right-arm fast
Young, raw and quick, Zondeki is cut straight from the modern history of the new South Africa and spent a year of his early childhood in Zambia living with his exiled uncle, the late ANC cabinet minister Steve Tshwete. He returned to South Africa where he attended Dale College, a predominantly white boarding school near his home in the Eastern Cape, but which also claims Makhaya Ntini as an old boy. Although he initially bowled legspin, he was soon bowling fast and later, very fast. After Mfuneko Ngam's huge promise was severed by a string of injuries, Zondeki became the next young fast bowler to attempt to fill the boots of Allan Donald.
He could hardly have made a more stunning impact, taking a wicket withhis first ball in international cricket, Sri Lanka's Marvan Atapattu caught in the slips during a one-day international in Bloemfontein in 2002. During the 2003 World Cup, Zondeki was a literal replacement for Donald, the selectors opting for youth and promise over experience. Predictably, Zondeki struggled to make an impression under enormous pressure but was seleced for the 2003 tour of England. He made an impression on his debut at Headingley, but with bat not ball. South Africa were struggling at 142 for 7 before Zondeki and Gary Kisten added 150 for the eighth wicket. But a side injury restricted him to just 4.5 overs, and his bad luck with injuries meant he did not get back into the Test side until March 2005, against Zimbabwe. It was an impressive comeback, nine wickets - including a career best 6 for 39 - booking him a place to the West Indies. He managed just seven wickets in three Tests in the Caribbean, and recurring injuries seriously hampered his chances at international level.
However, he enjoyed an excellent 2007-08 domestic season, during which he was the leading wicket-taker with 62 at 19.16, and was called up to South Africa's Test squad to India after Charl Langeveldt pulled out. Zondeki was also Warwickshire's overseas signing for the 2008 season. He got a chance again at the international level against the touring Kenyan and Bangladeshi sides in October and November 2008, and was later picked in the touring party for Australia.

Lance Klusener

Lance Klusener Biography
Lance Klusener (born 4 September 1971 in Durban, South Africa) is a cricketer, more specifically an all-rounder. He is known for his aggressive batting and his fast-medium swing bowling. He is nicknamed \"Zulu\" because of his fluency in that language. Following his exploits at the 1999 World Cup, he topped the ICC ODI Batting rankings. His peak rating put him 28th on the ICC all-time ODI Batting rankings. His career average of 41.1 in ODI cricket, combined with his strike rate of 89.9 make him one of the the most dangerous batsmen to ever play the game. Klusener made his Test match debut for South Africa against India in Calcutta during the second Test in 1996/97. Klusener, at the time playing primarily as a bowler, took some fearful hammering at the hands of Mohammad Azharuddin, who at one point hit him for five consecutive fours, in his first innings of his debut but returned career best figures of eight for 64 in the second. Klusener will be remembered mainly for his contributions in One Day Internationals, in which he became feared as a hard hitting batsman and was voted as Man of the Tournament during the 1999 World Cup. He was also voted as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 2000. His international career has tapered off since then, due mainly to persistent ankle injuries, as well as a public dispute with the current South African captain Graeme Smith, who at a breakfast meeting shortly after his appointment to the captaincy described Klusener as a \"disruptive force\" to the younger players within the South African national cricket team, with the quote ending up in the South African press.[1] However it seems that Klusener and Smith have patched up their differences.[2][3] Klusener plays for Kwazulu-Natal (Nashua Dolphins) in the domestic level in South Africa. In 2003 Northamptonshire County Cricket Club signed him on a contract running until late 2007. So far at Wantage Road he has impressed with his fired-up seam bowling and his hard-hitting in the low middle-order. Due to family beareavments back home, it has been announced that his contract with the county will not be renewed at the end of the 2007 season. In late 2007, he started playing in the Indian Cricket League Twenty20 tournament in India for the Kolkata Tigers team. [4] Klusener's batting averages are particularly notable for the peculiar fact that his ODI average is considerably higher than his Test average. This is a fair reflection of his aggressive temperament.
