It has been an interesting rise to fame for the talented all-rounder and son of former England cricketer Chris Broad. Stuart Broad started as a batsman, but in 2005 changed it to being a medium-fast bowler, and so was chosen for England's under-19 team, also making his Leicestershire debut. Stuart Braod spent the winter of 2004/2005 playing in Australia which started a great following domestic season when he broke through into the Leicestershire first team, taking twelve wickets in his first three championship appearances.
His progress continued as he made it to the England A side for the tour to West Indies, and then featured regularly in that team in 2006. The New Zealand tour of 2008 proved to be his making though. Matthew Hoggard and Steve Harmison were both out of form, so Broad was chosen for the test, where his fielding, among other things, proved that England had found themselves a Test cricketer of rare class.
