Johan Elmander is a professional footballer, born on May 27, 1981 in Alingsås, Sweden. He got an opportunity to represent the Sweden under-21 national team in 2000 and since then, he capped 28 times and scored twelve goals. A couple of years later, he was selected for the senior national team and went on to represent Sweden at the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he played two games. In all, Johan Elmander has capped 38 times and scored eleven goals for his country at the senior level.
Born into a family of footballers, he took up the sport after seeing his brothers Peter and Patrik, who both play for GAIS in Sweden. He started his career with the Swedish football club Holmalunds IF and Örgryte, where he shifted to a being a midfielder. During his tenure at the club from 1997 to 1998, he made 23 appearances for the club. Later, he moved to Örgryte IS, where he spent a year.
At the age of 18, Johan Elmander signed with Dutch club Feyenoord, and made 39 appearances for the club. During his stint at the club from 2000 to 2004, he was loaned out to Djurgården and NAC Breda. At the end of the 2004 season, he was bought by Danish Superliga outfit Brøndby, where he was one of the key performers of the team. The team won both the Superliga championship and the Danish Cup in the 2004-05 season, for which Johan Elmander was voted Brøndby’s Player of the Year. He scored a total of twenty two goals from his 58 appearances for the club in the two seasons that he played there.
In 2006, Johan Elmander moved to the French side Toulouse, where he amassed 22 goals in 62 appearances and helped the club to elevate its position in the table.
On 27 June 2008, Elmander moved to the English Premier League by signing a three-year deal worth £8.2 million with Bolton Wanderers.
