Marion Bartoli Biography
Marion Bartoli (born October 2, 1984) is a female professional tennis player from France. She lives in Geneva in Switzerland. She is currently ranked 17 in the world in singles and 33 in doubles.
Born in Le Puy-en-Velay, Auvergne, Marion Bartoli was introduced to tennis by her father, Walter, at the age of six. As a junior she won the junior US Open title in 2001, and the Australian Hardcourt Championships and Victorian Championships in the same year. As a senior, Marion Bartoli has not yet won a Grand Slam singles titles, but won her first WTA Tour title in 2006 in New Zealand. She has also won three WTA Tour Doubles titles. She is the French Number 2, behind Amélie Mauresmo.
In October 2006, Bartoli won her second WTA Tour title at the AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships beating Aiko Nakamura 2/6 6/2 6/2 in the final. As a result she broke into the top twenty for the very first time. In her last event of the season she captured the Bell Challenge beating Olga Poutchkova 6/0 6/0 in the final. As a result she rose to number seventeen, a new career high.
